Kitchen plumbing
Kitchen plumbing is the sink and its drain, the garbage disposal, the faucet and supply lines, the dishwasher's supply and drain, the refrigerator water line and, in many homes, a gas line to the range. Grease clogs, jammed disposals and leaks under the sink account for most kitchen plumbing calls.

Why does my kitchen sink keep clogging?
Grease and food coat the drain line and catch everything after them. Clearing the trap fixes the clog; cleaning the pipe walls keeps it from coming back.
Disposals don't prevent grease clogs. See sink not draining and drain cleaning.
What should I do if the garbage disposal hums but won't spin?
Turn off the power, free the motor with a 1/4-inch hex key in the bottom socket, remove the jam, then press the reset button.
If it leaks from the body or keeps jamming, replacement is usually simpler. See garbage disposal jammed.
Do I need a plumber to connect a gas range?
Gas connections should be made by a licensed professional and leak-tested. Many states license gas work separately.
Common kitchen plumbing problems
Kitchen Plumbing questions
Why does my dishwasher back up into the sink?
The sink and dishwasher share a drain. A clog in the trap or the disposal's dishwasher inlet sends dishwasher water into the sink.
How long does a kitchen faucet last?
Quality faucets often last 15 years or more; hard water shortens cartridge life. Leaks at the spout usually mean a worn cartridge.
Can I pour grease down the drain with hot water?
No. Grease cools and hardens further down the line. Wipe pans with paper towels and throw the grease in the trash.
